Umm Jamaal ud-Din

Ustaadha Umm Jamaal ud-Din formally reverted to Islaam in 1989, both her father and grandfather were Christian lay preachers in the church.

From the very beginning of her Islaam, Umm Jamaal’s dream was to study the religion deeply in order to benefit herself and others.

Soon after marrying, she travelled to Saudi Arabia with the hope of studying at an Islamic University, but found the path to seeking knowledge, particularly for females, very difficult.

Umm Jamaal ud-Din, therefore turned her efforts and attention to studying the Quran and Arabic, firstly studying Quran and Tajweed at Dar al-Huda Quran School in Jeddah, through which she eventually obtained an Ijaazah (licence to teach) in Tajweed from her teacher Kareema Czerepinski, the student of Shaykh Ayman Swayd.

After returning to Australia she completed a BA Languages (major in Arabic) at the University of Western Sydney and then went on to study both Aqeedah and Fiqh (Mutuun) from Arabic Scholars based in Saudi Arabia ( الأكادمية الإسلامية المفتوحة). She has studied comparative Fiqh based on the explanation of the Hanbali manual of Fiqh (Umdatul-Fiqh), and is currently also completing a BA Honours in Fiqh and Usul al-Fiqh at Al-Madinah International University.

Umm Jamaal also completed her memorisation of the Quran after she helped three of her five children firstly complete their own memorisation.

She has been teaching Fiqh and Aqeedah to women at the Islamic College of Australia for about 10 years (under the supervision of Shaykh Abdus-Salam Zoud) and has been an active da’iyyah and public speaker for over 15 years at various Islamic centres, functions and masajid in Sydney, as well as giving lectures nationally and internationally.
