Hum Definition - What is Hum?

In audio terms, "hum" is a literal term referring to humming or buzzing background noise coming through audio equipment such as speakers or headphones. This is typically caused because audio waves are carried through electric current, which can be interfered with by other sources of electricity such as power wires or electric lights. When outside electrical signals interfere with the signal carrying the audio, thoes outside electrical signals are, themselves, interpreted as audio, which results in the humming sound.
